Account Title
A brief name to describe the account you are setting up
Host
The FTP host URL to log into. Thi is usually something similar to "ftp.yoursite.com" -- or sometimes, just the domain name such as "yoursite.com" or "www.yoursite.com." If your not sure about this, check with your hosting provider or server admministrator to get the proper FTP Host.User Name
The username for your FTP account. This should have been provided to you by your server admin, or company that is hosting your site. If your not sure what your FTP account name is, check with your server admin.Password
The password associated with your User Name. This should have been provided to you by your server admin, or company that is hosting your site. If your not sure what your password is, check with your server admin.Start Up Folder
This would be the folder that you would like Wimpy FTP to load up when Wimpy FTP first starts up. Most folks like to set this to the folder that contains the "public" files. For example, "public_html" or "www." You can leave this blank and Wimpy FTP will start up in your account "root."
NOTE: You can also set up FTP accounts by editing the configsWimpyFTP.xml. Add sites by adding a new <item> to the <accounts> tag. This is especially helpful if you want to distribute Wimpy FTP to clients, friends and family, but don't want to go through the pain of telling them how to set up and account... simpy edit the XML config file with the proper settings, then send them Wimpy FTP "all packaged up" and ready to go.
- Once you've set up an account, click the "Connect" button. Wimpy FTP will retrieve the list of files and folders defined in the "Start Up Folder" when you set up the account. If you decided to leave the Start Up Folder option blank, Wimpy FTP will load the files and folders in the "root" of your FTP account. Usually the files and folders that make up your web site are located in the "public" folder for your account..
- You can navigate through the folders by double clicking on the folders.
- To upload files to your site, simply drag and drop files from your local PC into the Wimpy FTP window. You can drag and drop the files anywhere within Wimpy FTP. Files that are "dragged and dropped" into the Wimpy FTP window will be uploaded to the current folder that is "open" in the list on the right-hand-side. At the very top of the folder and file list you will see the current folder that you are in.
WARNING: Wimpy FTP is intended for uploading files only. Folders should not be "dragged and dropped" into the Wimpy FTP window. Wimpy FTP will not allow you to drag and drop a folder from your local PC into the Wimpy FTP window. Wimpy FTP will only upload files. You can upload multiple files, by dragging and dropping multiple files into the Wimpy FTP window. If you drag and drop a folder into the Wimpy FTP window, you will more-than-likely recieve an error.
